1998 Z71 Chevy Truck Specs

    • The first Chevrolet pickup truck was introduced in 1924. More than 80 years later, Chevrolet trucks have developed over a wide variety of shapes, styles and sizes. In 1998, Chevrolet released its last version of the C/K line that later transformed into its current style of pickup trucks. This last generation of C/K trucks included an Off-Road Performance Package known as the "Z71." Today the Z71 package is available in several Chevy trucks and SUVs on the market.

    Trims and Power Train

    • The 1998 Chevy C/K series comes as a two- or three-door pickup truck in either a regular or extended cab. Two engines are available for the C/K 1500: a 4.3L V6 engine and a 5.0L V8 engine. The 4.3L V6 engine produces 200 horsepower at 4,440 RPM and has a torque of 255 ft.-lbs. at 2,800 RPM. Bore and stroke are 101.6 mm by 88.4 mm, with a compression ratio of 9.2:1. The 5.0L V8 engine generates 220 horsepower at 4,600 RPM and has a torque of 280 ft.-lbs. at 2,800 RPM. Bore and stroke are 95 mm by 88.39 mm, with a compression ratio of 9.4:1. Diesel engines, such as the 5.0L V8, OHV 16V FI, are available as an upgrade. The 1998 Chevy C/K is equipped with either a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic.

    Features

    • The C/K series came standard with power brakes and power steering, an AM/FM audio system, vinyl seats and intermittent windshield wipers. Optional features included power door locks, a tilt steering wheel, power driver's seat, rear window defroster, cruise control, and chrome wheels and bumpers. Air conditioning and an upgraded audio system with a cassette player were also available. As safety features, the 1998 C/K pickup truck series came with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), two disc brakes, an immobilizer and front airbags.

    The Z71 Upgrade

    • The Z71 Off-road Package was available on 4x4 models of the C/K line as a special upgrade. The Z71 was equipped with heavy-duty shocks, a 40 mm anti-sway bar and aluminum skid plates. The chassis was a reinforced K series with Delco rear springs, polyurethane suspension bushings and HD bearings with dust shields. The Z71 was also equipped with an oil cooler option.
