Originally introduced in 1965, the iconic Harley Davidson Electra Glide, so called for its innovative (at the time) electric starter, is widely considered the "King of the Road" in the motorcycling world. It is easily the most famous name in motorcycles and the only motorcycle to have a film, "Electra Glide in Blue," named after it. The glory lived on in the 2000 Electra Glide Classic, which featured several updates over previous years.

The 2000 Electra Glide Classic (FLHTC), available with carburetor or Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) fuel systems, featured a chrome and black Twin Cam 88-cubic-inch (1450cc) vibration isolation-mounted V-twin engine that produced 67 hp at 5200 rpm. Fuel economy was 46 highway miles per gallon and 39 city mpg.

Tucked in behind the fairing of the 2000 Electra Glide Classic was an electronic speedometer (new for 2000) with odometer and resettable trip meter, a tachometer, fuel gauge and voltmeter. The console also featured a 40-watts-per-channel stereo sound system with AM/FM cassette and integrated clock with handlebar controls. Additional convenience features included a cigarette lighter, low-fuel light (on the ESPI version), oil-pressure indicator lamp and an engine diagnostic light. Styling updates for 2000 included a redesigned seat, nine-hollow-spoke cast aluminum alloy wheels and a "King Tour Pak" with ample storage for two full-faced helmets.
