If a coworker is celebrating a 60th birthday soon, make the day extra special by decorating the 'birthday kid's cubicle. Using items that reflect the recipient's preferences and pastimes can make appealing decor--and can make for some wonderful pictures.
1950s Items
-
A cubicle featuring items that from the 1950s, the decade that your colleague was born, will make the space festive and eye-catching. A pink and black color scheme is ideal for the cubicle, and will give the area the feel of a '50s diner. Tape or display small cutouts of jukeboxes and records on the desk, and program a few '50s tunes on your coworker's computer if possible.
Posters of cars and guitars from the decade will look great along the "walls" of the cube. Set up foods from the era on your co-worker's desk as well--a breakfast with items like biscuits and gravy or eggs and bacon will help to welcome your coworker to the office in the morning.
60 Things Decorations
-
Decorate your colleague's cubicle by using the number 60 as a theme. Bring a large vase filled with 60 flowers to place in the corner of the cubicle, or enliven the cubicle with 60 balloons. Use the shape of the number 60 in accessories throughout the cube, such as a mousepad or area rug.
Finish off the theme with edible decorations such as two cakes formed to shape the number 60, a large birthday candle that displays your coworker's age, or 60 cupcakes that are decorated with icing in your colleague's favorite color.
Almost Retired Decorations
-
When you colleague has reached the age of 60, he will probably be thinking about retirement soon. Decorate the cubicle with paper palm trees or a miniature hammock to symbolize the vacations that your coworker will take once she retires. Or, adorn the cubicle with several miniature potted plants or an herb garden (which can also serve as a gift) if your colleague loves to garden. Other functional decor, such as a seat cushion or electric massager will make your coworker's birthday--and the days after--more comfortable.
