The Advantages of Double Pane Windows

  • Security

    • Installing double glazing can improve the security of your home and deter would-be intruders. The glass used to construct double-glazed windows is tough and more difficult to break than standard windows. Many home insurance policies apply reductions if approved double glazing is installed with a secure locking mechanism.

    Energy Bills

    • Double glazed windows reduce heat loss compared to standard single glazing as the air gap between the window panes acts as a layer of insulation. Improved draft exclusion also helps to retain heat within the home. The transfer of energy into the home during summer months can also be reduced. Because of these factors, energy bills for heating or cooling your home are reduced once double glazed windows are fitted.

    Noise

    • The gap between the two panes of glass in a double glazed unit provides a level of sound insulation higher than single pane windows. If you live close to a busy road or near an airport, double glazing can significantly reduce noise levels within your home. If your home is located in a very noisy situation, choose double glazing with a large gap between window panes as the larger the air space the better the sound insulation properties of the glazed unit.

    Maintenance

    • UPVC double glazing requires virtually no maintenance to the frames during their lifetime, making them more convenient and providing a cheaper cost of ownership compared to wood framed windows. During a 25-year period, wood framed windows would have to be painted around five times depending on the local climate. No painting is required with UPVC double glazed windows.
