With environmental concerns such as global warming on the rise, individuals and companies worldwide are striving to "go green." People are trying to reduce their carbon footprints by recycling and conserving energy, and numerous companies are creating ecofriendly products. Automotive companies and other engine-creating businesses are doing their part by building modes of transportation containing hybrid engines. These engines are beneficial in a multitude of ways, including helping the environment and our health.
Economical
-
Because vehicles with hybrid engines have a gasoline-powered motor and an electric motor, hybrids only use gasoline periodically, according to "Road and Travel" magazine. Gasoline is primarily used when the vehicle is traveling at a high speed; the slower the car travels, the less fuel the automobile uses. A hybrid vehicle gets anywhere from 48 mpg to 60 mpg, enabling the car owner to save a significant amount of money on fuel expenses, according to the magazine.
Ecofriendly
-
A hybrid vehicle releases just 25 percent to 35 percent of the gasoline emissions that an automobile with a regular engine does, according to "Road and Travel" magazine. By releasing less pollution than a nonhybrid engine, a hybrid engine is more environmentally friendly. To release less carbon emissions, the vehicle should be driven at constant speeds if possible, and the driver should keep the speed of the automobile below 70 mph, according to the magazine.
Health Benefits
-
Because hybrid engines burn less fossil fuel than regular engines, less pollution and exhaust is released into the air, according to Planet Green, an ecofriendly resource managed by the Discovery Channel. Exhaust from a car can lead to damaged lungs and other illnesses that include bronchitis or emphysema, according to Planet Green.
