AmeriCorps Requirements

Eligibility depends on which program you are interested in. The basic qualifications are that you must be a United States citizen, a United States national or a lawful permanent resident of the United States, and a minimum of 17 years of age. Americorps has the following programs: Americorps State, National, Vista and NCCC.
NCCC/ National Civilian Community Corps

The NCCC requires a 10-month commitment and training in CPR, first aid and public safety before any projects can be attended. AmeriCorps NCCC is a full-time, team-based residential program for men and women aged 18 to 24, who receive assignments to a campus in Denver, Colorado; Sacramento, California; Perry Point, Maryland; Vicksburg, Mississippi; or Vinton, Iowa.
Firefighting Testing

Testing for firefighting is physical and very strenuous. It includes a three-mile walk that must be completed within 45 minutes. In addition, a weighted vest will be worn carrying a minimum of 45 pounds. Endurance is the key in this test.
