Are There Any Perennial Morning Glory Plants?

Morning glory plants come in more than 1,000 species, according to Wayne's Word - An Online Textbook of Natural History. Many morning glory plants are perennial vines when grown in warmer climates, but in most zones of the United States, most morning glories grow only as annuals.
  • Description

    • Different morning glories have slightly different flower, fruit and leaf traits, but they all produce funnel-shaped blossoms in white, red, pink, blue, purple or yellow. Most morning glory plants are fully open in the morning and close later in the day.

    Bindweeds

    • Many people consider wild morning glories, called bindweeds, to be a nuisance weed that's hard to get rid of. Pulling them out of the ground results in new shoots starting to grow from buds along the roots.

    Fun Facts

    • Sweet potatoes and Mexican jicama come from species of morning glory plants. Also, some morning glory species have hallucinogenic properties.
