Wooden Privacy Fences

Wooden privacy fences are generally made of pressure-treated or painted wood and can be constructed board-by-board or from roughly eight-foot sections that are pre-constructed. Board-by-board installation is completed on site and is more expensive. These fences average about six feet high and come in a variety of styles. Fences built entirely on-site can be customized ahead of time. Panels generally consist of the "dog ear" style and are sold in eight-foot sections. Gates also have to be considered as an added cost, when deciding on a privacy fence.

Vinyl or PVC has become a popular alternative to wood due to its durability and ease of maintenance. More expensive than pressure-treated wood panels, the white vinyl equivalent of the pre-built wood panel is significantly more expensive--roughly three times as much.
Fabric Privacy Screens

A third option is fabric privacy screening. Weather-resistant fabric is added to traditional chain link fencing to offer privacy screening. This option is sold in rolls of fabric fencing or by the foot, and generally comes in 150-foot rolls.
