Skin is the body's largest organ and needs care and attention. Sleep is one of the best beauty treatments available and skin can suffer due to inadequate levels. Your face can sag due to muscle fatigue, and lack of oxygen can cause a gray complexion. The sheets you choose play an important part in skin care, as the right choice improves the depth of your sleep and the quality of your skin.

    Silk

    • Silk sheets are smooth and naturally wrinkle free, encouraging the skin to slide across them and preventing bed creases. The amino acids found in silk may be good for the skin and prevent premature wrinkling. Made from the cocoons of silk worms, silk contains natural substances that repel dust mites, mold and fungi. Silk is cool in the summer and warm in the winter and has a luxuriant feel that encourages relaxation and a sense of satisfaction, which all add up to a good night's sleep.

    Cotton

    • Cotton is a breathable fabric and wicks moisture away from the skin, leaving you less likely to sweat overnight. Sweat that collects on pillowcases and comes into contact with your face can lead to spots, irregular skin tone and can be a particular irritant to acne suffers. When choosing cotton sheets, pay attention to the thread count. Sheets that are too heavy lead to increased sweating, whereas a light thread count can be rough on the skin and agitate it. Look for a thread count between 200 and 400.

    Bamboo

    • Bamboo is comparable to cotton but tends to be more breathable and more absorbent. It has natural antibacterial properties and is soft to the touch. The sheets have a slightly silky feel to them, giving them a similar sense of luxury in a less expensive form. Bamboo is hypoallergenic and non-irritating, making bamboo sheets an ideal choice for sufferers of skin sensitivities, such as eczema.
