The Best Ways to Mount a Picture on a Mat

You can make a special picture, a piece of artwork or a meaningful photograph look professionally mounted by placing it onto a mat board before placing it into a frame. A framing shop can mount your picture for you, but you can save money by mounting the picture yourself. In order to successfully mount the picture on a mat, it is helpful to follow a few guidelines so that the picture looks straight.

  Take the back off of a 5-inch by 7-inch picture frame, and set it aside.

  Place a 5-inch by 7-inch mat upside down on a tabletop.

  Place a 5-inch by 7-inch picture onto the mat, and line up the edges.

  Place a small piece of art tape along each edge of the mat, effectively securing the picture to the mat.
