Fuel Efficiency
-
Fuel injection systems hold a distinct advantage over carburetors in fuel efficiency. Fuel injected cars not only get higher gas mileage but also produce fewer emissions as the amount of gasoline and the gas and air mixture is electronically controlled and adjusted for peak efficiency.
Simplicity
-
A properly adjusted fuel injection system requires little maintenance. However, when things go wrong, fuel injection systems are difficult to adjust and repair. Carburetors, on the other hand, can be adjusted and customized with simple tools and a basic knowledge of their operation. Carburetors are also simpler to mount on custom built or customized cars.
Cost
-
Even high performance carburetors can be bought for less than a fuel injection system. However, buyers should consider fuel costs over the life of the vehicle and the savings that a fuel injection system could bring.
