Types
-
Cheap fabric types include those that are on sale; those that are naturally inexpensive, like cheesecloth and burlap; and those that are made for a low-priced market. In general, good quality fabrics that are on sale, or natural fabrics with lower prices, have a better quality than those designed for the budget retailer.
Uses
-
Use cheap fabrics to make curtains, tablecloths or home accessories. Covering a sofa takes over 10 yards of fabric, so a cheap fabric is a good option for slipcovering or reupholstering furniture. Some cheap fabrics can be used for quilting or clothing as well.
Warning
-
Some fabrics are cheap for a reason. Cheap fabric should be unfolded and viewed in its entirety before purchase. Buy in person to be sure the fabric doesn't have any bad odors. If a fabric has evidence of smoke, mold, or mildew damage, it is not likely to be useful in any way.
