Construction Technology Training

Construction technology training is the study of the methods and equipment used to build structures. Studies and certification should be undertaken only at colleges or universities that are approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Features

• Courses in construction technology include the basics of engineering, site inspection, environmental issues, management of construction workers, analysis of architectural plans and interpretation of building codes. Most of the studies are performed in classrooms and laboratories, but students can include trade work by participating in internships.

Types

• Approximately 200 colleges and universities offer construction technology studies in the U.S., as of 2010. While all training providers teach general construction technology, some require students to specialize within a construction trade such as bricklaying, ground working, electrical engineering or carpentry. Prerequisites for admissions are high school diplomas with a focus on science and math.

Potential

• Training can last from two to four years, depending upon the degree, school and specialization. Graduates will usually be employed in construction management or as building inspectors. Engineering companies, surveyors and architects also are in need of construction technology graduates.
