Creative Baby Gifts for Parents

  When a couple is expecting a baby, the couple receives many gifts. Often, the gifts are quite similar, with the couple receiving clothes, diapers and blankets. Rather than choosing something that the new parents will receive in multitude, look for a gift that is a bit more creative. Choose something meant specifically for the baby or a gift that will help the parents care for him.

Baby's Handprint

• Give the parents the opportunity to decorate the nursery with the baby's handprints once she is born by giving a handprint kit. Many craft stores sell kits where the baby's handprints can be created in clay. You can give a kit for clay stepping stones, holiday ornaments or even a dinner plate. The kits include clay, a mold and all of the other items necessary to create a personalized baby item.

Store Membership

• Babies need lots of things, like countless diapers, baby wipes, tubes of diaper rash cream and formula, which can get expensive. Give the new parents a membership to a store that sells bulk quantities of these items at inexpensive prices. They can also buy other items, such as strollers and car seats, less expensively at these types of stores.

Nursing

• Baby stores and maternity stores sell items that make life easier for a nursing mother. For example, purchase a cover specifically made for a mom while she is nursing. While some mothers use blankets, a blanket can easily slip or be hot and uncomfortable for both mom and baby. A nursing cover is made to stay on the mother and is lightweight and comfortable. Another creative nursing gift is a special cooler made to keep breast milk cool when transported.

Gift Basket

• Create a gift basket for the new parents, such as one filled with items to create a meal. For example, write one of your favorite recipes on a piece of card stock and include all of the nonperishable items needed to make it. You can also create a gift basket for parents after the baby is born. Fill a basket with coffee and coffee accessories to help mom and dad get through the long nights with a newborn.
