Brown, including dark-brown shades, are primarily composed of three colors: red, yellow, and black. Although dark brown has not always been a popular color, it has grown to be a color-choice favorite for weddings, home decor, and make-up because of the visual effect it creates. When complemented properly with other colors, dark brown can exude the feeling of sophistication and welcoming warmth.
Dark-Chocolate Brown
- Dark-chocolate brown is the shade that American brides are using to combine with some of their favorite colors. Traditionally, dark chocolate was paired with cream and gold to create a look of elegance. Recently, it's become the base color that is accented by vibrant color splashes of fuschia, lime green, baby blue, or cinnamon red to give the wedding an exotic feel.
Dark chocolate brown looks good in wedding pictures and goes well not only for the wedding decor, but for the wedding party attire as well. It's important to know that this color has a greater wedding appeal when it is found in satin and silk fabrics.

Family rooms, living rooms and office spaces need to have a welcoming feel for both the resident and occasional visitor. Unfortunately, many American home owners attempt to revamp these spaces and find themselves overwhelmed by color combination choices.
In 2009, interior designer and HGTV star Candice Olson helped a family in just this kind of predicament. Olson reached for dark chocolate and mahogany-wood dark brown to awe the home owners.
You too can find these shades of brown useful in warming the atmosphere of your home. Olson built the color palate from both browns adding the colors of butterscotch and sage to make the room inviting not just for the adults but for the children as well. Remember, in interior design the dark-brown shades can bring the natural earth association inside, causing the eye to perceive familiarity and comfort.
Rich Dark Brown
- Whether your going to work or out dancing with friends, rich, dark brown eyeshadow can give you that classy, glamour-girl look. Eyeshadows like bronze, mocha, and cocoa brown give your eyes that dramatic look without the hard dullness of onxy. These dark shades also compliment other soft make-up colors like peach, rose-petal pink, and shimmering espresso brown far better than bold color choices.
