Gifts for Little Girls Ages 5 to 10

    • There are huge differences between a 5-year-old and a 10-year-old girl. But there are similarities as well. Buying gifts can be as simple as thinking back to what you may have enjoyed as a child, to figuring out what girls of today like that wasn't available even a few years ago. There are any number of gift choices available for little girls ages 5 to 10.

    Books

    • For younger girls, look for books with little text and lots of bright, colorful pictures. Books from Raven Tree Press are colorful and informational. Some are bi-lingual in both Spanish and English. These are books that can reach all the girls from 5 to 10. Parents can read the books to the younger children, while older children can read the books for themselves. Some of titles include "A Sweater for Duncan," "The Little Weed Flower," and "Gramma's Pear Tree."

Lion's Children's Books offer books such as "Two-Minute Animal Stories" and "Growing Strong." Give Berenstain Bear books such as "The Berenstain Bears and the Gift of Courage." Many girls love the idea of being a princess. You can check out the whole series of "I Can Read" Princess' Twin series.

The older girls, especially those who like mysteries, might start reading Nancy Drew books. There are also Camp Club Girls mystery series "Sydney's Out Banks Blast," "Alexis and the Arizona Adventure," and many more. There is also the historical mystery Andrea Carter series. Classics include "Alice in Wonderland" and "Black Beauty" as well as "Sara, Plain and Tall."

    Personal Care

    • Most girls, no matter what age, enjoy fixing their hair. They like to experiment with lotions, perfumes and makeup. Fill a basket with all sorts of hair clips, bands, ribbons and bows. Include hair brushes, combs and a mirror. Add samples of shampoo, lotions, perfume and age-appropriate makeup. For the older girls, include a book on personal care or how-to hair styles. It doesn't hurt to add a small stuffed toy to the basket as well.

    Jewelry

    • Jewelry is usually a winner with little girls ages 5 to 10. For younger girls give chunky, sturdy jewelry that is easy to handle and doesn't break easily. If giving finer jewelry, make sure the gift is sanctioned by the parent or guardian. Girls will enjoy necklaces and bracelet sets with images of their favorite cartoon, singer or musical group. Older girls may also like jewelry-making kits to create their own jewelry.

    Music & Videos

    • Even 5-year-olds like listening and dancing to music. Give a music CD or two with music appropriate for the girl's maturity level. Ask the family for suggestions. The same goes for videos or video games. Ask the parents for suggestions and keep within family-friendly guidelines.
