Gifts for Six Year Old Kids

  • Puzzles

    • Six-year-old children have longer attention spans and prefer structured activities, but also need help and guidance from adults. Puzzles of a favorite movie or superhero are not only challenging, but also help children work on concentration skills. They are also a great way to spend time with a child while offering advice on where pieces may go, which helps them to feel good about themselves when they figure it out. Children at this age need to be praised. Puzzles not only build self-esteem, but give the child a sense of accomplishment.

    Language and Art

    • A 6-year-old's language skills develop quickly. They are also at a stage between reality and make-believe.Therefore, they not only enjoy reading about both, but expressing themselves in words, writing and pictures. This is a great time to get them books about the fantastic and the real; books with lots of pictures, to get the imagination going and to get them talking, whether it's to ask questions or explain a picture. Get them some colored paper, scissors and glue so they can make a book to write stories in. An art set of paints and crayons will ignite their imagination and allow them to show off their artwork; artwork that can be put on the fridge for everyone to admire.

    Physical Toys and Games

    • Six-year-olds may still be a little awkward at certain activities, but they are quickly honing their motor skills. Get them something that will help in this process. Toys and games that promote physical activity are not only fun and healthy, but build physical coordination and help them mature more quickly. Age 6 is a good time for the first bike. Not only does it build and use muscles, but gives children a sense of individuality and freedom. Getting them a music CD or karaoke disc gets them up and dancing and allows them to express themselves. A game like Twister is also a good bet, not only because of the crazy positions they can get in to, but because it helps to build hand- and foot-eye coordination.
