A stepmother is an important part of the family unit. She often plays a substantial role in the lives of her husband's children and steps in to fulfill motherly duties when called on. Giving a gift to your stepmother is a kind gesture that is likely to make her feel special. Whether you have a lot of money to spend on a gift or not, it can still be a thoughtful gift she will appreciate.

Treat your stepmother to a day of beauty at a salon. Pay for her to get her hair washed and styled. If it is in the budget, consider including a manicure and pedicure as well. Although she is likely to enjoy this gift whether she goes alone or not, offer to accompany her to the salon for a mother/daughter makeover.

If you do not have money to spend on a spa day, treat your stepmother to a daily spa right in her home by giving her a basket of products for pampering. Line a large basket with a fluffy towel and fill it with items such as body wash, bath salts, body sponge, scented candles, eye mask, moisturizers, body scrubs, lotion, facial cleanser and any other bath and body products you can imagine.

A fleece robe and slippers is a practical gift that many stepmothers will get a lot of use out of. A more expensive option would be a silk robe and a pair of moccasin or designer slippers. Consider her personality when deciding what type of slippers to get and whether to get a long or short robe. Flannel pajamas or a long silk nightgown are also appropriate.

Accessories make great gifts because they can be worn with her normal wardrobe. Options for accessories include handbags, wallets, stylish scarves, hats, gloves, and belts. Your stepmother may also enjoy jewelry. Choose expensive jewelry like diamond earrings, a birthstone ring, watch, pendant or gold bracelet; or inexpensive costume jewelry, bangles and necklaces. If you are creative, handmade accessories are also an option.

If your stepmother is a domestic diva who spends a lot of time in the kitchen, she is likely to appreciate items such as a recipe reader for holding her favorite recipes, personalized apron, spice rack with spices, indoor herb garden kit, cookbooks, stainless steel knife set, chinaware, espresso machine or stand mixer. She may also appreciate other household gifts like a vacuum cleaner, bathroom towel set, scent diffuser or vases.

Surprise your stepmother by having a dozen of her favorite flowers delivered to her at home or work. Giving her a houseplant is also an option. Houseplants not only add to the decor, many help improve the air quality around them. English ivy, peace lily, weeping fig, spider plant and bamboo are some houseplants you may consider giving her. If your stepmother has a large yard, offer to plant flowers or plants in her yard as a gift.
