Islamic schools are sometimes an expensive educational alternative because the schools are considered private and and are not required to adhere to school funding and administrative rules as compared to public schools. Since regular educational curriculum is not geared towards religious subjects, Muslim parents must choose to pay out of pocket for private Muslim school training. Financing a school year at a Muslim school is expensive; however, financial assistance is available.

The Muslim Youth Leadership award is geared only for Minnesota Muslim youth who are highly interested in bettering their educational futures. The granting association has awards scholarships and grants from $25,000 to $37,000 to youth who have demonstrated an exceptional attitude regarding their studies, however, do not have the funds to attend private Muslim schools or universities. To apply for the award, potential applicants must wait for the designated open application period, complete the application at mylawards.org and allow the application to process for an approval or denial.
BREAD and North South Foundation
-
This foundation has provided funds to at least 2000 approved applicants over the years. The application process requires that a family's income is at least $26,000 a year, yet be under $38,000 for families residing in rural locations. Some candidates may be interviewed before acceptance. The deadline for filing for the grant each year is July 31. Students eligible for or receiving other scholarships will not be considered. This is for students who come from families who do not have any other options.
In-School Private Grants
-
Often a Islamic school will offer a payment plan financing option or grant to the parent to gain a higher enrollment of the brightest Muslim students. Inquiring with the school principal about grants that may assist with the high tuition is an excellent way to get grant money for your child to attend school while remaining in the Muslim culture.
Scholarships and grants for Muslim students are not plentiful, but can be found through extensive research. Parents searching for award money should ensure that all grant and scholarship information is up to date before pursuing, or it could be a waste of time since time is literally money when it comes to grant money.
