Receiving a hand-made greeting card from a friend or family member is a meaningful experience. These cards can be adorned with decorative embellishments, minimalist drawings or any number of other creative ideas. Using chipboard as an element in your greeting cards gives you versatile material to work with and is made from pressed fiber. This product is usable in a variety of ways when crafting the cards.

    Watercolor Painting

    • Skilled artists will find that chipboard makes a good medium for watercolor painting. The paint easily adheres due to the porous fibers. Make a greeting card by simply folding the chipboard in half and cutting to an even size if necessary. Paint a watercolor picture or design on the front and use an ink pen to write a personalized message inside.

    Chipboard Shape Cutouts

    • Chipboard is a good material from which to cut shapes or letters. You can cut out the chipboard letters and shapes yourself using a razor. If doing this, consider tracing the outline onto the chipboard with a light pencil. You can also purchase pre-cut chipboard letters and shapes in a variety of colors. Use your shapes to create personalized greeting cards. Spell out the name of the birthday girl with chipboard lettering or create a menagerie of creatures for your animal-loving grandson.

    Fabric Texture

    • Add an element of texture to a chipboard greeting card. You can do this by gluing a layer of fabric over the chipboard background or shape. Be sure to trim off any excess around the edges. Use soft white cotton fabric for a chipboard snowman, vinyl for a shiny witch's hat or artificial fur for an animal. When the fabric is attached to the chipboard shapes, you can glue them to the greeting cards.

    Glitter

    • Use glitter on parts of your chipboard card for a shimmering effect. You may want to paint the shape outline or area that you'll cover with glitter first. This adds definition to the glitter color. You can add green glitter to a tree on the greeting card, white glitter to mimic snow or any other items that could benefit from some sparkle.
