The Growing Conditions of the Alstroemeria Flower

A native to South America, the alstroemeria is one of the most commonly utilized flowers in the cut flower industry. Alstroemeria is in the amaryllis family.
  • Light

    • Alstroemeria plants require full sun, all day. When planted in the shade, the stems become weak and the flower heads flop over.

    Soil

    • Most garden plants require well-drained soil, and it is vital for the alstroemeria. If you have a heavy, clay soil, amend it well with compost or manure to improve the drainage.

    Timing

    • Alstroemeria rhizomes should be planted in May or June. If your region is subjected to late frosts, June is the best time for you to plant.
