Liven up an otherwise boring day with some hat crafts. Kids can decorate their hats as they like and customize them to make each hat their own. Make hats with items you probably already have around the house. It's a craft that kids can do at a birthday party and take their hats home as favors.
Grocery Bag Hats
-
Turn a brown paper grocery sack into a fashion statement by making it into a hat. Roll the edges of the bag down until it looks the way you want it to and fits your head. If the hat needs some adjusting, you can use tape to make it fit your head. Embellish the hat using whatever you desire. Some ideas are feathers, paper cut into flower shapes, stickers, pipe cleaners and pom poms. Or, draw on the hats using markers and crayons.
Paper Plate Hat
-
Make a hat using a regular sized paper plate. Cut out the center of the plate so it's the proper size for your head to fit through. Embellish the hat with glue and glitter, stickers or pipe cleaners. Or, when you cut the center of the plate you can cut shapes or designs and stand them up to be a decoration, then decorate the designs as well as the plate.
Crown
-
You can make a crown using poster board of any color. Cut a wide piece of the poster board that will fit your head. Cut triangles out of one side of the poster board to make the top of the crown. Tape the crown together to fit you. Decorate the crown with stick-on rhinestones or markers and stickers.
Duck Hat
-
Transform a yellow baseball style cap into a quacking duck hat. All you need is a glue gun, some orange felt and google eyes. Make a duck bill by cutting two pieces of orange felt that are the same size and shape as the bill of the hat, and glue one on the top and one on the bottom. Only glue the edge of the bottom piece of felt so it hangs down to look like a duck bill. Glue the google eyes on the top of the hat.
