How do I Get an APO Package Sent?

When sending a care package to a soldier in the military, whether it is here in the United States or overseas, you need to make sure that certain guidelines are followed. The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers military delivery of parcel packages, but they must be packaged, addressed and shipped a certain way.
  • Flat Rate Shipping

    • The USPS offers flat rate shipping of a package at any weight as long as it fits inside the Priority Mail box provided. The rate to send a flat rate package to an APO/FPO address is $12.50. That is $2 less than the domestic flat rate shipping for the same size package.

    Customs Form

    • If you are sending your care package overseas, a customs form must accompany the package at time of shipment. When filling out the customs form, you will need to put a description of the item, value of the item and who you are shipping it to.

    How to Package

    • When shipping care packages, make sure to keep certain items separate from everything else. You will not want to pack food items with toiletries or other shippable chemicals. Make sure everything is securely packed to avoid any movement or breakage while being shipped.
