How do I Get a Free Printable Practice GED Test?

The General Education Development -- or GED -- high school equivalency exam contains five tests that take about seven hours to complete. A limited number of free, printable practice tests are available online. Comprehensive practice tests also can be accessed for free by checking out GED books at the library.

    • GED books from companies such as Barron's Educational Series, Inc. and The Princeton Review are available at the library. They provide practice tests for reading, writing, science, social studies and mathematics, as well as test-taking tips, such as process of elimination, and how to write a good essay.

    Testing Company

    • The American Council on Education is the official administrator of the GED. It offers free, printable practice tests with answers for all sections of the exam. Each contains about seven questions. In contrast, the real mathematics exam has two sections of 25 questions each.

    • At its website, education publisher McGraw-Hill offers a complete, printable practice test for social studies containing 25 multiple-choice questions.

    Warning

    • Don't plan on taking the entire exam in one day. Test-takers are allowed to decide the order and number of tests to take during a day.
