How do I Learn Scottish Gaelic & Pronunciations?

Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig) is a Celtic language native to Scotland and spoken by Scottish communities around the world. Learning Scottish Gaelic and its pronunciations can be done with the use of teachers, books or the Internet.
  • Books

    • Scottish Gaelic language books can teach learners vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. Learners can find a list of useful Scottish Gaelic language books on the BBC's Beag Air Bheag Further Resource's web page (see Resources).

    Teachers

    • A good language teacher can provide a learner with pronunciation, reading and listening skills. Scottish Gaelic teachers can easily be found within the United Kingdom but are rare in other parts of the world. The Language School Teachers website (see Resources) allows users to meet Scottish Gaelic teachers from around the world, many of whom provide their services on the Internet or over the telephone.

    Internet

    • The Internet is home to a variety of Scottish Gaelic language-learning websites with free lessons. A list of online Scottish Gaelic courses can be found on Sabhal Mòr Ostaig's Internet Learning Materials web page (see Resources).
