Language
-
To write a Word document in Spanish, you will first need to enable Spanish as an editing language for Word. Select the "Start" button, then "All Programs," then "Microsoft Office," then "Microsoft Office Tools," then "Microsoft Office Language Settings." The Language Settings dialog box will appear. Select Spanish and with the "Add" button add it to the Enable Editing Languages box. Press "OK."
Now open a Word document. On the bottom left corner of your Word document window, you will find the document's language. Change the document language to Spanish by clicking on the currently selected language. A dialog box will appear; select Spanish and then press "OK." This temporarily changes the document's language and spell checker to Spanish.
Accents, Special Characters and Punctuation
-
Spanish accent marks, specialized letters and punctuation marks are integral to Spanish spelling and writing documents in Spanish. If you do not have a Spanish-language keyboard, you will need to learn how to find diacritical marks on demand. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools" and then "Character Map." The Character Map dialog box will appear; this is where you will import the special characters from and into your Word documents.
Using the Character Map
-
Find the Spanish character or punctuation mark you need on the Character Map, click on it and then click the "Select" button on the map's dialog box. The selected character will show beside "Characters to Copy." Click the "Copy" button. Return to your Word document and click "Paste." This action will insert the Spanish character or punctuation mark into your document. You can then change the size or font of the character to match the rest of your document and continue writing in Spanish.
