How to Add Memory to a Power Edge 2600

Adding memory to a Dell PowerEdge 2600 server computer is possible because the computer comes with a total of six memory slots. This is in direct contrast to most other computers that typically come with just two slots, which may both be occupied, making it more difficult to add memory. The experience of adding memory to the PowerEdge computer is identical to the experience of adding it to any other computer, since the PowerEdge uses standard DDR RAM slots for memory (the same as those found on regular, non-server computers).

Turn off your computer and unplug all the cables from it. Remove the screws on the back left side of the computer. Slide the side panel of the PowerEdge 2600 off the computer and locate the memory slots. They are long and narrow with two small levers on either side.

Open the two levers on either side of an empty RAM slot. Position the first RAM chip over the slot, making sure to align it correctly to the slot (it will only fit in one direction). Push down until the RAM chip clicks into place. Do the same for the next one and so on until you are done.

Slide the side panel of the computer back into place and replace the screws you removed in step 1. Re-attach all the cables to the computer and turn it back on.
