How to Add to a Sony Shelf System

Sony shelf systems are compact stereos that consist of two speakers connected to a main unit with a built-in CD player and AM/FM radio tuner. The company's shelf systems also include a docking station for an iPod, as well as a mini-jack stereo input on the back for adding other components, such as a cassette deck. Use an audio Y-adapter with the mini-jack to connect full-size stereo cables from an add-on component to the Sony shelf system.

  Insert the small plug on the Y-adapter into the "Audio Input" mini-jack on the back of the Sony shelf system's main unit.

  Connect the two plugs on one end of a stereo cable to the two jacks on the Y-adapter.

  Hook up the plugs on the other end of the cable to the left and right audio outputs on the rear of a full-size stereo component, such as a tape deck.

  Insert an iPod straight down into the docking station, built into the top of the Sony shelf system's main unit.
