How to Adjust Proxy Settings

If your computer connects to the Internet by use of a server proxy, it is vital that your browser's settings are properly configured to connect to the server. If you are using Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari to connect to the Internet, you can manually adjust the proxy settings.
  • Internet Explorer

      Click the "Tools" drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner of the "Internet Explorer" window, then click "Internet Options."

      Click the "Connections" tab in the "Internet Options" pop-up box.

      Click the connection button most appropriate for your connection setup. If you are using a local area network (LAN), click the "LAN Settings" button. For a dial-up connection or virtual private network (VPN), click the "Dial-Up Settings," or "VPN Settings" button.

      Click the boxes next to "Automatically detect proxy settings," and "Use a proxy configuration script" to uncheck them, if they are check-marked.

      Type the appropriate proxy address in the "Address" dialogue box.

      Type the appropriate port number in to the "Port" dialogue box.

      Click "OK" to save any changes made.

    Firefox

      Click the "Tools" drop-down menu at the top of the "Firefox" window, then click "Options."

      Click the "Advanced" tab in the "Options" pop-up box.

      Click the "Network" tab.

      Click the button labeled "Settings" in the "Connections" area.

      Click the "Manual Proxy Configuration" button, and then enter the appropriate proxy server address and port number in the boxes labeled "Address" and "Port." Click "OK" to save the changes made.

    Safari

      Click the "Edit" drop-down menu at the top of the "Safari" window, then click "Preferences."

      Click the "Advanced" button, then click "Change Settings."

      Click the "LAN Settings" button.

      Click the "Use a Proxy Server for this connection" check box.

      Type the appropriate proxy address and port number into the "Address" and "Port" box, then click "OK" to save the changes made.
