How to Adjust the Resistance on a Hand Gripper

Hand grippers allow you to strengthen your hand and forearm muscles with an easy exercise that you can do almost anywhere. When you can do 15 to 25 repetitions with ease, you may want to increase the tension in the hand gripper. Or, if you find you can't do more than one or two repetitions, you might want to decrease that tension. Some hand grippers cannot be adjusted, but ones with an internal spring can be.

Unscrew the cover of the spring mechanism using either the Phillips-head or flat-head screwdriver.

    • 2

Locate the point where the spring is attached to the hand grip.

    • 3

Turn the screw holding the spring in place clockwise to tighten it or counterclockwise to loosen it.
