How to Attach Fiber Board to Walls

Fiberboard is a type of engineered wood made from different wood fibers, providing durability in a variety of densities. From bathrooms to basements, fiberboard can provide a lightweight paneling solution and an alternative to plywood. Fiberboard does require its own special considerations for installation, from placement and layering, to tools and fasteners. Knowing how to attach Fiberboard to walls can produce great-looking results in home construction projects.

Hold a fiberboard panel in place vertically against the wall. Using a tape measure and pencil, mark the stud 16 inches from the corner of the fiberboard.

    • 2

Screw the fiberboard into the studs every 16 inches with wood screws, using a power drill and driver bit. Place the screws 2 feet apart vertically on the studs. Continue this process until the wall is almost covered vertically with fiberboard panels, leaving room for only one cut piece of fiberboard.

    • 3

Measure the space for the final vertical panel with a tape measure, and mark the cuts on a fiberboard panel.

    • 4

Put on safety glasses, and cut the final vertical panel using a circular saw, according to your markings.

    • 5

Screw the final cut, vertical panel into place.

    • 6

Screw a second layer of fiberboard horizontally over the first layer of fiberboard on the studs. Continue until the wall is covered, except for irregular panel spaces.

    • 7

Measure the irregular panel spaces and mark their dimensions onto fiberboard panels.

    • 8

Cut the irregular panels with a circular saw and screw them in place, into the wall studs.
