How to Block Dialog Pop Ups

The age when Web surfers had to tolerate annoying pop-up ads and dialog boxes whilst browsing the Internet has passed. Most popular Web browsers have come with integrated pop-up blockers for some time now. They're easy to activate, simple to mange and you can even set exclusions to allow sites that require pop-ups for some functionality to use them.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer

      Open Internet Explorer.

      Click on the "Tools" option in the toolbar and hover over "Pop-up Blocker."

      Select "Turn on pop-up blocker."

      Click on "Yes" when asked to confirm if you wish to turn the pop-up blocker on.

      Hover over the "Pop-up Blocker" option in the "Tools" menu again and select "Pop-up Blocker Settings" to add sites that you want to allow to use pop-ups.

    Mozilla Firefox

      Open Firefox.

      Click on "Tools" in the toolbar and select "Options."

      Click on the "Content" tab.

      Check the "Block Pop-up Windows" tick box.

      Add sites you want to allow to use pop-ups by clicking on "Exceptions," entering the website's address and then selecting "Allow."

    Google Chrome

      Open Chrome.

      Click on the spanner symbol in the top right hand corner of the window and select "Options."

      Click on the "Under the Bonnet" tab and select "Content Settings."

      Check the box marked "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups."

      Click on "Exceptions" and then on "Add" to allow sites of your choice to use pop-ups.

    Apple Safari

      Open Safari.

      Click on the "Menu" tab in the top right hand corner of the window.

      Click on "Block Pop-up Windows" and ensure that there is a tick next to this option to confirm the function has been activated. You'll need to click on this option again to allow a site to use pop-ups.
