How to Build a Database in Access 2007

The database you want to build in Microsoft Office Access will serve as a valuable component for cataloging and coordinating any information you wish to store electronically. By using tables in a similar fashion as the spreadsheets used by Microsoft Excel, Access allows you to structure your data in ways that make it easily accessible when you need it. Fortunately, creating a database from the ground up in Access is a task you can accomplish fairly easily.
    • 1

      Open up Microsoft Office Access.

    • 2

Select "Blank Database" on the opening screen.

    • 3

Enter the name you wish to give to your database and push the "Create" link. This will bring up a worksheet for the first table of your database. You will see a field called ID that will serve as the primary key.

    • 4

Add multiple fields by double-clicking the top cell in the column of your choice.

    • 5

Type the field name into each cell.

    • 6

      Click "Enter" when finished.

    • 7

Modify the field by using the controls for Data Type and Format.

    • 8

Add as many fields as you need to complete your desired table.

    • 9

      Save your work.

    • 10

Enter a name for the table.

    • 11

Select the "Create" in the Access Ribbon, then select the Table icon to generate additional tables.

    • 12

Complete the database by adding other features such as forms and reports.
