How to Change a Ford Focus PCV Hose

The Ford Focus has been available in the United States since 2000. The Focus has been produced with 1.8-liter, 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter engines in the U.S. version. The PCV hose connects the PCV valve to the crankcase. PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation, as the PCV valve opens and shuts to relieve the pressure from the crankcase. A faulty PCV hose in an engine needs replacement in order to keep the engine running more efficiently.

      Lift the front of the Focus and place jack stands beneath either lower control arm. You can use vehicle ramps to raise the front of the Focus, which will eliminate the need for a jack or stands.

      Lie beneath the front of the Focus and slide your body into position, where you can see the oil pan.

      Visually locate the PVC port tube on the side of the oil pan. The PCV port tube is a nipple that protrudes from the pan about 3/4-inch.

      Slide a hose clamp over one end of a 3/8-inch hose, and push it up the hose so that it does not fall off during hose installation. Slide one end of the long hose over the PCV port tube until it butts up against the side of the oil pan.

      Slide the hose clamp over the end of the hose near the base of the oil pan. Tighten the clamp between 15 to 20 foot-pounds of torque, using a 3/8-inch drive ratchet and socket. Feed the entire tube up through the back of the driver's side of the engine.

      Lower the front of the vehicle and raise the hood. Physically locate the PCV valve on the back of the valve cover. The valve cover is the uppermost part of the engine, directly on top of the block.

      Connect your PCV hose to the long PCV valve by hand. The PCV valve is barbed on the hose end, so no hose clamp is necessary in order to hold the hose to the PCV valve.

      Attach the PCV hose to any plastic clamps or brackets that are designed to hold the PCV hose securely away from the extremely hot parts of the engine.
