How to Change a Lockset

Changing lock-sets requires only a few tools and some basic knowledge of the task. Some things to do before removing the existing lock-set are verifying the thickness of the door and checking the "back-set" on the door and the "function" of the lock-set. The "back-set" is the dimension from the edge of the door to the center of the large lock-set hole in the face of the door. The "function" refers to how the lock-set operates; for example, the function of the lock-set without a locking mechanism is a "passage" lock-set.
