How to Change Password Complexity Requirements

Windows allows the administrator of the computer to control the way system passwords are created and handled by users. This includes the complexity of the password in terms of the number of characters and the type of characters that are used. Changing the password complexity requirements on your Windows computer involves changing a setting with a couple of clicks of your mouse.

  Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of your desktop. Type "Secpol.msc" in the search field that appears and press your "Enter" key. Enter your password if required.

  Select "Account Policies" in the left column of the window that appears. Select "Password Policy."

  Double-click "Password must meet complexity requirements" and choose "Enable" or "Disable" by clicking the radio button next to either choice. Click the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button. Close the window.
