How to Change Proxy Settings Remotely

In order to change proxy settings remotely, the remote computer must be enabled to allow remote connections. If this permission is enabled, a connection can be established through the Windows Remote Desktop application, and you can configure the necessary proxy settings through the remote system's Registry Editor utility. Proceed with caution every time you make changes to this utility, however, since corrupting the value of a key could jeopardize the system's functionality.

  Click "Start" and "Run." Type "regedit.exe" in the command line, and press "Enter." The Registry Editor utility opens.

  Click "File" and choose the "Connect Network Registry..." option. A "Select Computer" window opens.

  Enter the IP address that corresponds to the remote computer you want to access, and click "OK." The remote computer displays as a node on your Registry's console tree in the left pane.

  Expand the "+" sign next to the remote computer's name or IP address. A list of hives is displayed.

  Expand "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" > "Software" > "Microsoft" > "Windows" > "CurrentVersion."

  Click the "Internet Settings" key. A list of settings is displayed on the right pane. Right-click the proxy setting you wish to enable, and choose "Modify" from the drop-down menu. For example, right-click "ProxyEnable," choose "Modify" and configure as necessary. A value of "0" in the "Value data" text field corresponds to "Enabled" status. A value of "1" corresponds to "Disabled." Click "OK" to save changes.
