How to Clear Shower Drain Weep Holes

Weep holes are situated under the shower tray and act as a drainage system for moisture or water seeping through the tile grouting or sealant. Keeping the weep holes free from debris allows excess water to run to the waste drain. The water will sit under the shower tray or seep into the ceiling of downstairs rooms if the weep holes are not kept clear. A buildup of lime scale or dirt may cause the weep holes to become blocked. The sooner the problem is resolved, the less damage the water will cause.

Look inside the drainage hole and locate the weep holes. The holes are small and will surround the main drainage pipe.

Poke the holes until clear. Use the thin piece or wire to clear the weep holes. A wire coat hanger or a large paper clip will also be suitable. Bend the wire into a long shape and poke the holes in a vertical direction. Continue until all the holes are clear.
