How to Code a New Key for a 2003 Chevrolet Truck

Chevrolet trucks often offer smart-key technologies; this includes the 2003 models. Smart keys, or transponder keys, are used to electronically sync with your engine. Once you set the code only a programmed key can be used to start your engine. You can complete the process in minutes using only your key and no professional equipment.

Turn your new key in the car's ignition to the "on" position.

    • 2

Leave the key in the "on" position for 10 1/2 minutes. Turn it "off" within another 45 seconds.

    • 3

Repeat the procedure an additional two times, for a total of three cycles. End with the key in the "off" position.

    • 4

Turn the key back to the "on" position. Start the vehicle with the key to end the coding process.
