How to convert miles to kilometres

A mile is roughly one and a half kilometres, but for an accurate conversion miles can quickly be converted to kilometres using a calculator and the correct formula. There are also several Web services that will do the conversion within your browser for you.

Using a Calculator

  Enter the number of miles you wish to convert to kilometres into the calculator.

  Press multiply and enter 1.609.

  Press equals for the number of miles you entered in Step 1 in kilometres.

Using the Web

  Go to a search engine like Google, Bing or Yahoo. These three support conversions within the search interface.

  Enter “x miles in km” in the search box, where “x” is the number of miles you wish to convert.

  Press the “Enter” key, and the search engine will work out your conversion and display it above the search results.
