The required Boost Mobile SIM card will only work in Blackberry models that operate on the Nextel IDEN network, which includes models 7100i, 7520 and 8350i.
Instructions
- 1
Install the Boost SIM card in your Blackberry and go to the Boost Mobile Activation page listed under "Resources" on this page. Choose the plan you wish to apply to the new phone and either select a new phone number or link an old number to the account.
Enter the activation number when prompted, followed by the number on the SIM card, and the IMEI number found inside the cell phone beneath the battery. Create a PIN number to allow for future account logins. Within two hours, Boost will send you an email and text message confirming your phone's activation and number.
- 2
Install the latest edition of the Blackberry Desktop Manager software on your computer. Install onto your computer the edition of Blackberry Operating System that corresponds to your phone model. Using the USB cord, then attach the Blackberry to the computer. If prompted, upgrade your phone.
Back up the service books currently installed on the phone by selecting the "Backup and Restore" option. Select "Restore" within that menu, save to the hard drive, then back out to the main menu and unplug the phone from the computer.
- 3
Close any applications open on the phone. Delete the already installed Blackberry browser by selecting "Options," then "Advanced Options," then "Applications," then "Browser." Select "Delete," press "Yes" to confirm and "Yes" again to reboot the phone.
After the reboot, select "Options," then "Advanced Options," then "Service Book." Hold the "Alt" key while pressing each letter key in this sequence: S, B, E, B. If this is done correctly, "Legacy SB Restore Enabled" will come onto the screen. Plug the phone back into the computer with the USB cord.
- 4
Select "Backup and Restore," then the Advanced menu, and then the "Advanced" option in that menu. Select "Device Database" and scroll to highlight "Service Book." Press "Clear."
Move to the "Computer Database" column and select "File," then open. Find and select the "Boostberry Service Books" from the computer. Back in the "Computer Database" column, then highlight "Service Books." Sync your phone by pushing the right arrow buttons on the Blackberry, which look like this: ">>." Click "Yes" to confirm the sync and manually check to make sure the books installed.
If you have the Blackberry model 7520, an error will appear saying only 22 of the 23 books installed. Click "OK" because it will not impact functionality.
- 5
Select "Application Loader" and highlight "Add/Remove Applications." Select "Start" and scroll to "Browser." Check the boxes next to the options for "Browser," "Help" and "Javascript Package." Click "Next" and "Finish" to finalize your choices.
Disconnect the phone from the computer and remove the phone's battery. Replace it after 30 seconds and wait for it to reboot itself. Your Blackberry is now converted to Boostberry.
