How to Convert My Internal CD Writer to External

If you have run out of room within your desktop pc, or you wish to use the space a cd writer takes up for something else, you can transfer the drive to an external enclosure. The process is incredibly simple, and all it takes is an optical drive conversion enclosure, which can be bought at any specialty electronics store. This article instructs you how to convert an internal CD writer to an external CD writer.

      Insert the CD writer into the enclosure following the manufacturer's instructions.

      Connect the USB cable to the back of your computer.

      Connect the other end of the USB cable to your external enclosure.

      Power on your computer.

      Both PC and Mac computers should automatically search for drivers for the new hardware. The screen will prompt you to authorize the new drivers. Click "Yes" when the computer asks for authorization to install the driver.

      If your Mac or PC does not automatically search for drivers, you can manually add the driver's from the manufacturer's website. Check the hardware's included manual for the website address, or use Google.
