How to Correct Vocals in Logic Pro

Apple's Logic Pro software allows you to function as a full-fledged music engineer, editing and perfecting every aspect of your music, just as you would in a major studio. Among its myriad capabilities, Logic Pro allows you to correct off-key vocals using its built-in pitch enhancement plug-in. So even if you struggle with your singing abilities, you can achieve professional vocal quality thanks to the wonders of technology.

Open Logic Pro and import your vocals. If you already recorded the vocals using Logic, you can skip this step. Otherwise, you can drag the file containing your vocals (such as any WAV, AIFF or MP3 file) directly onto the Logic project window, or record vocals by clicking any blank audio track (the horizontal bars spanning across your screen) and clicking "Record."

Click the "Window" menu at the top of your screen and select "Mixer" to view your virtual mixer board, from which you can apply your effects.

    • 3

Click any of the available "Insert" buttons on the channel strip corresponding to your vocal track. If you do not know the number of the track on which your vocal region appears, check your main project window (known as the "Arrange" window) and look for the number in the left column. When your effects options appear beneath your "Inserts" box, select "Pitch" > "Pitch Correction" > "Mono" from the list.

Choose your correction type using the "Scale" options. For very light corrections, select "Chromatic." For serious corrections, select "Major Scale," and then choose the key of your song using the "Root" menu to the left. Logic will then filter your vocals so that every note matches your selected key, giving you the best possible quality.

Drag your "Response" slider to determine the intensity of your correction. For instance, "115ms" is the average correction amount, while "0.0ms" will give you a robotic effect, similar to the Auto-Tune effect used in many pop and R&B songs on the radio.

Press "Play" at the bottom of your Arrange window to hear your corrected vocals, and then continue to make further adjustments as needed.
