How to Create Safe Storage Out of Empty Cleaning Containers

Recycling cleaning containers can help save you money when you need empty plastic spray bottles, containers or squeeze bottles. Before you can reuse these cleaning containers, however, you will need to clean and sanitize them to ensure that the cleaning solution does not seep into the product you're putting in the plastic container. This is especially important if you're putting food into the container.

  Fill the container with hot water.

  Add several drops of soap.

  Close the container and shake it to clean the inside of the container.

  Pour out the soapy solution and rinse it until you've removed all of the soap residue.

  Pour 1 cup of hot water into the container.

  Add 1 tsp. bleach.

  Close the container and shake it so the bleach solution can sanitize the inside of the container.

  Let the bleach solution sit in the container for at least 30 minutes.

  Remove the lid and rinse the container several times with clear water.

  Let it air dry completely before using it.
