How to Customize Pictures for Free

Pictures and photographs can be resized and customized for free on your home computer. This can be useful if you cannot afford to purchase a graphics software program or to send your pictures to a graphic artist to edit. If your computer has Microsoft installed, there will be a free graphics program available to you that will enable you to change size and position and to change colors on your picture.

Load your picture onto your computer using a scanner.

    • 2

Open the Paint program, which is available automatically when you purchase a computer or laptop that has Microsoft installed onto it.

    • 3

Open your picture onto Paint by clicking "File" at the top left-hand side of the screen, then clicking on "Open" from the list. A pop-up window will appear to allow you to browse for your picture file.

    • 4

Locate your picture file, then double-click it to open it in your Paint window.

    • 5

Change the size of the image by clicking on "Image" at the top of the screen, then selecting "Resize/Skew" from the list. This will make a pop-up window appear asking for dimensions.

    • 6

Adjust the percentage for the height and width of the image. Making the percentage higher will make the image larger, and making the percentage lower will make the image smaller.

    • 7

Change the positioning of the image by clicking on "Image" then clicking on "Flip/Rotate" from the list. A pop-up window will appear.

    • 8

Change the position by clicking on one of the selections, which include flipping the image horizontally, vertically or to different degrees.

    • 9

Change the colors inside your picture by using the tools inside the tool box to the left of the screen. You can click on different colors and different types of brushes and pen strokes.
