Select the base shape. The typical base shape of a beer mug is similar to a coffee cup, but larger. It is possible to deviate from the classic shape, such as making a boot shape. The shape will depend on personal preferences. For most, sticking to the base shape and adding to the design from the base is the easiest way to design the beer mug.

Determine preferred add-on designs. There are several ways to make a customized and personalized beer mug. One option is engraving. Any glass beer mug can have engraved pictures or words added to the mug. Another option is adding ink. Ink is added to glass, acrylic and ceramic mug materials. The last design option is adding to the glass, such as putting on a plaque, curved dragon or any other preferred item.
