How to Do Alabama State Taxes for Free Online

Alabama, like many states that provide online tax return services for individuals, allows you to complete your state tax return for free. The state of Alabama contracts with several partners -- including TaxSimple and Intuit for the tax year 2009 -- through which you can do this. You can only file your state taxes for free, though, if you meet certain restrictions these partners impose. These restrictions help low-income wage earners, students, the elderly and even active duty military personnel complete their state tax returns.
