How to Edit Pictures Using Microsoft

Microsoft Office Picture Manager comes packaged with Microsoft Office and all Office Suite software for Microsoft Window XP and later. The program allows you to easily manage and edit your photographs from where you store them on your computer. Among your choice of editing options are cropping, adjustment of brightness and contrast, fine-tuning color and resizing your photos.
  • Open Photo in Picture Manager

      Click the Windows "Start" button. Select "All Programs." Click the "Microsoft Office" folder.

      Scroll down to "Microsoft Office Tools." Left-click the mouse button on "Microsoft Office Manager."

      Navigate to the folder in which your pictures are stored. Select the .jpg image you wish to edit.

      Double-click on the thumbnail or file name to open the file in the Picture Manager program.

    Crop Photo

      Left-click the mouse button on "Edit Pictures" in the main tool bar. Click on the "Crop" link under "Edit using these tools."

      Drag on the edges and corners around the image to reduce the image area and select the region you would like to keep. Adjust from the corners to preserve proportions.

      Drag the sides to change width. Use the shift key, along with the left mouse button, to maintain proportion.

      Drag from inside the image to move the cropped box. Use the "Zoom" bar slider to visually enlarge your cropped picture.

      Make a selection from the drop-down under "Crop Settings" and "Aspect Ratio" menu, if you would like to crop to a standard size such as 4 x 6, or 5 x 7.

      Click "OK" when you are satisfied with your selection.

    Adjust Brightness and Contrast

      In the main tool bar, click "Edit Pictures." Click "Brightness and Contrast" link under "Edit using these tools at the right of the screen."

      Press the 'Auto Brightness' button if you want to automatically correct the

      image. Use the keys "Ctrl" and "z" simultaneously to undo the command if you do not like the results.

      Use the sliders to make more subtle adjustment to "Brightness" and "Contrast" under the "Brightness and contrast settings."

      Click the "More" link next to "Advanced settings" to make adjustments to the "Midtone," "Highlights" or "Shadows."

      Click the "Back to Edit Picture" when you are satisfied with the results.

    Color Adjustment

      Click '"Edit Pictures" in the main tool bar. Click the "Color" link under "Edit using these tools at the right of the screen."

      Click the "Enhance Color" button under "Color Enhancement" at the right of the screen. Click inside the image on an area that should be white to automatically adjust the color balance.

      Fine-tune the hue by using the '"mount" slider under "Hue and saturation settings" to adjust the degree to which you want to apply the correction.

      Fine-tune the tint by using the "Hue" slider under "Hue and saturation settings" to adjust the temperature of the color.

      Use the "Saturation" slider bar to decrease or increase the color intensity of the image.

      Click "Back to Edit Pictures" to save the adjustment.

    Resizing Photo

      Click "Edit Pictures." Click on 'Resize' at the right of screen under "Change Picture Size."

      Adjust by selecting the button under "Resize settings" and "Predefined pixel width x height" to size the picture for printing, web page or email application.

      Adjust as a "Percentage of original width x height" by typing in the number that applies.

      Check the "Size setting summary" information at the bottom of the task pane to compare the original and new size of image.

      Click "Back to Edit Picture" when you have adjusted your photo to the correct size.

      Under "File" on the top task bar, select "Save" and exit the program. Select "Save As" and rename the picture if you want to keep your original photo in addition to the edited one.
