How to Erase Previous Search Windows in Explorer

Windows allows you to perform searches in Windows Explorer to find data and files on your computer. Details of searches appear below the search dropdown when the user performs a new search. If you do not want any users to see what you were searching for, you can close all search windows and erase this dropdown.
    • 1

Click the "X" in the top-right corner of the search window. This will close the window.

    • 2

Press the "Windows" key and the "R" key on your keyboard at the same time. Type "regedit" in the field. Press the "Enter" key.

    • 3

Drill down to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/WordWheelQuery" in the left column.

    • 4

Right click "WordWheelQuery" and select the "Delete" option. Click "Yes" to confirm. Close the windows. Your searches have now been erased.
