How to Find the GST Number for a Company
Some provinces in Canada charge a tax known as the Goods and Services Tax. It came into effect on Jan. 1, 1991, and was designed to replace the Manufacturers Sales Tax. It was a flat eight percent tax on most items that were sold at the retail level. In recent years, the GST has been reduced and as of 2010 it stood at five percent. In some provinces--including Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland--the GST has been replaced with the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax). There are a number of ways to find the GST number for a company.
